No doubt about those Pickerel and Walleye fish are just plain wily. Say what you can, but even the dumbest Walleye seems to be a lot smarter at evading novice fishing sports people and most people that you may well encounter in your lifetime and on your travels. The early bird gets the worm, and that smart aquatic devil may well get your minnow or bait. Worse yet they get always seem to get away , evade you for the moment yet come back at future fishing expeditions to both annoy and bedevil you with their extreme skills and cunning. What a contest between two masters.

It is not your imagination. Although you may see lots of trophy sized and master angler Walleye and Pickeral fish, most of what you catch will be in the 1 to 3 lb ranges. Two pounds of highly packed weight seem to be the norm for this specie… Yet the average 2 lb weight fish can be said to more than tasty beyond belief. It is no accident that Pickeral fish are among the favorite and preferred prey of many avid out doors folk. Fried up on the spot – yummy. Definitely, the city does not rest. Anyone who visits New York and spend the night there can attest to it. In fact, staying in the hotel for a night is a complete waste of time. The city lures residents and visitors alike to eat in one of its quality restaurants and enjoy the night at any of its clubs.

Its morning may be a window of frantic economic activities but the nights show how a city relieves itself of stress. It is almost automatic how the people change from professionals and businesspersons to party animals as soon as the sun sets and night steps in. This is what New York City is.

What’s Missing in the West Coast

The Western United States is home to many of the rare attractions to our country. California’s coasts, Washington and Oregon’s forests, and even Texas’ own circus of adventures bring many people to visit this part of the world each year. However, on the flip side, East Coast culture contains completely different and exciting venues that these western states lack.

I seem to always have found my home in the Western United States, so my exposure to the East Coast has been limited to visits there. Returning from these visits, I would always feel a loss of the certain charms I saw in the East that were vacant in my own part of the world. Maybe with great effort, we can bring some Eastern delights to our side of town.

The first delight I can think of from the East Coast would most definitely be, pizza! When I say pizza, I’m not talking about the California Kitchen and their, what I like to call, pizza chips. Nothing can beat the savory Chicago Deep Dish. Not even Domino’s.

East Coast pizza can’t be ordered anywhere on our side of the country. This melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness can only compare to the great Italy itself. When you have to fold the pieces in half, wipe the drippings from your elbow, and stretch the cheese across the table, you know you are eating at a real pizzeria.

I’ve looked in Utah, California, Washington, and even laughably in Texas for this kind of pizza, and it never even holds a candle to New York’s or Chicago’s perfected pies. Man, or this woman, cannot live on pizza alone, so other temptations from the East should be explored. You shouldn’t be surprised to find I am also referring to food in this next example also.

For example, there is a good reason they are called Buffalo wings. I’m not talking about Buffalo, Wyoming either. What Texas can do with barbecue sauce, the East Coast can do with chicken wings. Sure you can have the delight of gnawing on a wing anywhere, but the original and most scrumptious on the market comes only in New York. Just try to deny yourself a bucketful.

Wings are all good and fine, especially with a little bleu cheese, but my real passion is the simplicity of sandwiches. To satisfy this craving I must take you to Pittsburgh. The most unusual, yet mouth watering creations exist in this city, and nowhere else. The cheese steak sandwich with coleslaw and fries — on the sandwich, mind you — would be a shame to miss in your lifetime.

Any converted Reuben fan will agree the best are made here as well. Also, where else can you find pierogies, pitas, and gyros to suit your taste. I wouldn’t dare try asking anyone in California to make you one of those. It would surely end in embarrassment.

Sadly, I have had many-a-cravings left ungratified because of the unfortunate location where I live. However, while we in the West Coast may not be able to ever capture these delights for ourselves, I’m sure we can claim many necessities of our own, that have no place on the Eastern seaboard. I have decided that these favorites of mine make the East Coast the East Coast, and so let them keep it all for themselves. I’ll be back soon for a visit.

Since I seem to always have lived in the West, I only rely on my visits to the East in delivering this information. I just know that returning from my visits, I would immediately miss certain charms I experienced in the East, that were missing in my home. I even wonder if rallying with great effort could bring the unique quality of the eastern states into our own side of the world.

I’m not the first to mention this, but the number one East Coast trademark has to be their pizza. Let’s be serious and note that California Kitchen and their pizza chips are not what I’m talking about. Pizza needs the unbeatable depth of the Chicago deep dish. Not even Domino’s can give you that.

Pizza like this can’t be ordered from anywhere west of the Mississippi. Only Italy itself can compare to the melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness of the East Coast’s pizzerias. If the slices aren’t so big you have to fold them in half, or the juices don’t drip down your elbow, or the cheese doesn’t stretch across the table, than dare not to claim any quality close to this kind of pizza.

Search all you want to in Utah, California, Washington, or even the laughable pizza of Texas, and it won’t hold the tiniest candle to New York City’s or Chicago’s perfected pizza pies. Take a chance of asking anyone in California to make you one of those. You’d be better not to embarrass them.

Just because I live on the other side of the country, I’ve had many a craving go ungratified. However, though we miss out of certain luxuries, we hold the rights to our own fancies that would have no place on the Eastern seaboard. The East Coast holds its charms to make it the East Coast, like no other place in the world. These charms can stay where they are, and I’ll always come back to visit.
