More Gold Coast Beaches

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

The 70 kilometers of beaches along the Gold Coast attract more than four million visitors annually. The Gold Coast is a Surfing mecca and is a great destination for a relaxing beach vacation. The most crowded beaches are Main Beach Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. While the best surfing beaches are the southern beaches. Miami and Nobby Beach are both quieter beaches. Nobby beach is a great location for relaxing with the family and Miami Beach offers peaceful beachfront as well as picnic facilities. For some action in this area a walk up the cliff offers breathtaking views up and down the coastline.

The beaches of Currumbin, Bilinga, and Torun are situated at the southernmost end of the Gold Coast. This is another popular area for families looking to get away from the crowds on the northern beaches. All three offer patrolled beachfronts and surf clubs. Currumbin offers special rock pools and low surf for swimming.

Kirra Beach and Kirra point are the most famous surfing beach on the Gold Coast. The waves are great for both experienced surfers ande beginners alike depending on their proximity to the shore. Both offer great waves throughout the year and in cyclone season. Kirra point however is said to have one of the ten best breaks in the world.

Greenmount Beach and Rainbow Bay are the Gold Coast’s only northern facing Beaches. This leads to more sheltered conditions for swimming. For a chance to see the migrating whales, take a walk around the point to Snapper Rocks during the colder months when the whales make their annual migration.

Burleigh Heads is a densley populated busy place which attracts families and surfers alike. The strong rip currents and the jagged rocks make this location dangerous for surfers who are not well experienced. There is a small park, Burleigh Heads National Park which offers beautiful views from the top.
