Parks And Attractions In Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes is a large town in Buckinghamshire, though with the original planning it was designed to be a city. However it was not granted city status. The main purpose of the town was to help deal with the congestion in London and this was to be an area to house those that worked in London. The town was rebuilt and designed in the 1950s and was suppose to be completely self sustaining as well as an important regional center.

The area that Milton Keynes now occupies was mainly farmland and there has been evidence of settlements in the area that can be traced to the Bronze Age. Before any construction as done a full archaeological exploration was conducted. This survey found settlements from Anglo-Normal, the Iron Age, Anglo-Saxon, Medieval, Romano-British and the Industrial revolution.

The plan to build this town was recognized internationally and many famous architects were attached to the project including John Winter, Richard MacCormac, Ralph Erskine, Norman Foster, Martin Richardson and Henning Larsen. A street hierarchy was used when designing the town and on a map you can see the different grid squares.

The theatre is very popular and one of the most popular outside of London. It will show opera, musicals, comedy and much more throughout the year. You can see some of the newest contemporary art at the Gallery. There is also an orchestra in town that performs throughout the year.

Woburn Abbey is a beautiful home to visit that was the home of the Duke of Bedford. Besides visiting the beautiful home with porcelain and furniture collections it also functions as an inn and rooms for events. There is a golf club and safari park making it a great destination for the entire family. You can walk though the extensive gardens or enjoy the theatre on the grounds.

About 20% of the entire city contains green spaces and there are many lakes and parks that can be explored. If you like wakeboarding or dragon boat racing then you should stop by Willen Lake. This park also contains a Peace Pagoda. There are beautiful beds of wildflowers and other plants that can be viewed on walks through Shenley park, Linford Park and how park.

Running right through the center of the town is the Grand Union canal and you can tour the canal on a narrow boat or cruiser. The town also has Campbell Park which is very much its own central park. This is very close to the center of the town.
